Welcome to Jekyll Island!

One of the "Golden Isles of Georgia," Jekyll Island blends unspoiled natural beauty, a rich history, and an impressive array of recreational activities on a land mass of only 5,700 acres. The state's smallest barrier island is by law 65 percent undeveloped. Often referred to today as "Georgia's Jewel," it was named Jekyll Island in 1734, as part of Britain's new colony of Georgia. Native Americans, the first European colonizers, the African Americans who labored on its cotton plantations, as well as members the Jekyll Island Club, the vacation refuge of famous wealthy families in the first half of the 20th Century, contributed to its intriguing history. Today with guided tours of the landmark Historic District, beautiful beaches, nature reserves, bike trails, and sports and recreation facilities, the island is ideal for tourists and vacationers.
Jekyll Island has been a golf destination since 1898, when Jekyll Island Club members added the first course on the island near the present-day airport. Today, Jekyll Island boasts 63 holes of golf on three 18-hole courses and one 9-hole course, earning Jekyll Island the bragging rights as Georgia's largest public golf resort.
