EarthCam and PacketVideo Deliver Live Camera Video Services for Mobile Users


Personal video broadcast applications using industry standard 3GPP solutions demonstrated on Sony Ericsson P800 Smartphone.

New York, March 18, 2003 -- a, Arial">Responding to the needs of mobile consumers and enterprise customers for value-added mobilemedia services, EarthCam and PacketVideo today announced the availability of live camera video services for today's hottest video-enabled telephones. The services are currently viewable on the Sony Ericsson P800 multimedia smartphone and will become available on other GPRS and CDMA phones in the near future. At CTIA, the companies are demonstrating two pioneering mobilemedia services powered by PacketVideo's industry standard 3GPP pv3 Mobilemedia System, live in the Sony Ericsson exhibition stand, including:

  • Live EarthCam! - mobile users gain access to EarthCam's New York Times Square livecam, LondonCam, ParisCam, and, in the near future, other live camera webcams that are part of one of the world's largest livecam networks, viewing scenic locations around the globe.
  • MyCam - allows consumers to create secure, personalized livecam webcasts that can be viewed on Sony Ericsson P800 devices. EarthCam's MyCam application uses PacketVideo technology to stream live content to wireless devices powered by pvPlayer™. The service enables users to deploy live cameras in the home, office, or anywhere a webcam can be installed. Using EarthCam's broadcaster service model and MyCam software on the PC, consumers can easily generate personalized 3GPP-compliant MPEG-4 livecam streams viewable on any compliant mobile device.
