Welcome to The New York Audubon!

Harbor Herons, the name given several species of long-legged wading birds, have returned in the
past 30 years to refuges in the New York-New Jersey harbors in many locations including some
protected islands just off the City's shore. The unexpected urban delight of seeing the majestic
birds in graceful flights is expected to grow as government, conservation organizations, and
volunteers continue to work to upgrade the quality of the local waters.
EarthCam and affiliate, NYC Audubon, bring visitors live close-ups of the nesting and development
of fledglings. The camera is located on an uninhabited island without power. The view is made
possible with the advanced technology using a unique solar power system and wireless transmission
to an Internet source nearly a mile away on the mainland.
NYC Audubon champions nature in the city's five boroughs through a combination of engaging
educational and entertaining programs, and innovative conservation campaigns. Through its efforts,
NYC Audubon saves and protects over 350 species of birds that live in the 12,000 acres of bird
sanctuaries including vast and diverse wetlands, forests, and grasslands of New York City.
Members are the crux of the advocacy programs initiated and supported by NYC Audubon. These
individuals drive causes that protect the bird life in New York City. Members are also given access
to a range of programs, classes, and lectures in and around the five boroughs.
