EarthCam Documents Major Construction Milestone for Miami Access Tunnel
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
New York, July 31, 2012 -- EarthCam, the global leader in construction camera technology, documented a major project milestone for the $1 billion Miami Access Tunnel today. The Tunnel Boring Machine (TMB) traveled 4,200 feet under Government Cut to create the first of two tunnel chambers being used for the project.
The TBM, nicknamed “Harriet”, is a $45 million machine with a massive 42 foot diameter. This event marks a historical moment and major milestone for the tunnel, which connects Watson Island and Dodge Island. The machine began its first mile-long journey under the Government Cut shipping channel in September 2011, and will make an appearance before taking a turn and driving the parallel twin tube back again.
After the event, EarthCam's in house editors and producers carefully poured over the hundreds of captured images, editing them into a theatrical time-lapse movie. This cinematic movie will serve as the perfect way for the project team to commemorate this great achievement.
