EarthCam's Image of the Statue of Liberty Wins Construction Industry Photo Contest

New 16 MegapixelCam Captures the Winning Shot

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

New York, January 12, 2012 -- With millions of photos taken of the Statue of Liberty, how could one single image stand out and be special enough to win a photo contest? EarthCam, the exclusive provider of webcam camera technology for the Statue of Liberty, is proud to annouce that they did just that. An image captured by its CrownCam is a winner of the ENR Annual Photo Contest and features an unmatched view of Lady Liberty from the famous golden torch.

The image was captured by EarthCam's new 16 megapixel construction camera. This cutting-edge system offers live streaming video and is programmed to automatically capture large 4,928 x 3,264 pixel images continuously 24/7. A custom version of this remarkable camera system was installed on the torch balcony of the Statue of Liberty as a gift for the 125th anniversary celebrations. This high definition camera invites viewers to experience a unique look from a part of the Statue that has been closed off to the public since 1916. The Statue is currently closed to the public while its pedestal undergoes a year-long renovation.

"A lot of hard work and innovation went into the concept and creation of the CrownCam", said Brian Cury, CEO and Founder of EarthCam. "The development of the CrownCam was truly a team effort and it was a pleasure working side by side with everyone at the National Park Service and the Statue of Liberty-Ellis Island Foundation. To be recognized by the leading construction industry magazine for our achievements in photographing this national icon is a sincere honor, and enhances this rewarding experience".

With numerous applications in the construction, education and entertainment industries, EarthCam's professional-level network camera systems give users various advanced photography solutions. EarthCam's 16 MegapixelCam offers clients remote access to important camera settings, including white balance, exposure compensation and High Dynamic Range (HDR) imaging. With this setting, the camera will take multiple photographs at various exposures and compile them to produce an image that most accurately represents the human eye. Creative imaging effects are made available, including Architectural Miniature, Artistic Color Sketch and Cinematic Black & White. This new system captures not only high quality images, but also creates artistic renderings that are perfectly suited for the web, print and theatrical-quality time-lapse movies.

The CrownCam is only one out of a total of 5 webcams that are located on the torch balcony. The webcams received a great deal of media attention when launched on October 28, 2011 as part of the 125th anniversary of the Statue and the National Park Service's Distant Learning Programs. This collection of special webcams continue to generate buzz due to their unprecendented views of the Statue of Liberty, Ellis Island and the New York and New Jersey skylines.
