EarthCam Releases New Time-Lapse Video of One World Trade Center

HD Construction Camera Documents the Rise of New York's Tallest Building

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

New York, April 30, 2012 -- The construction and rebuilding efforts at the World Trade Center in New York City have captivated the attention of people throughout the country and around the world. Within days of September 11th , 2001, EarthCam installed a professional webcam to share live images with the public and carefully capture all the recovery efforts. Over the years, EarthCam has consistently maintained their services, successfully documenting construction of the new structures, which are seen as a symbol of strength, unity and hope for America.

At 5 p.m. ET today, EarthCam will release a new HD time-lapse video showcasing the most up-to-date construction progress for the recently crowned tallest building in New York, One World Trade Center. Also known popularly as The Freedom Tower, it will eventually soar to 1,776 feet above the city, becoming the tallest building in the United States, overtaking The Willis Tower in Chicago. Every day for the past seven and a half years, several high quality robotic megapixel camera systems have been carefully documenting the vertical rise. The time-lapse video begins during preconstruction on October 18th, 2004 and ends with a multi-image panorama of today's significant milestone, from EarthCam's newest 700 MegapixelCam Robotic.

"Uniquely important, the construction of the World Trade Center is a tremendous effort by many, which deserves innovative technology and a passionate team to monitor and document its rebirth. What we set out to accomplish 10 years ago was to create something special and I believe we delivered", said Brian Cury, CEO and Founder of EarthCam. "We remain dedicated to this historic archive and will continue to share our creative achievements with the public through completion."

To date, over 1,000,000 high definition photographs were captured of Ground Zero and the World Trade Center site by EarthCam's cameras and editing the huge database of imagery was no easy task. Using special techniques developed over the years by EarthCam's time-lapse production staff, the current 90 month library was edited into a theatrical-quality two minute time-lapse movie. The time-lapse gives viewers a truly dynamic way to watch this extraordinary project in motion.
