EarthCam Search Tips

The Essentials of Searching

Simply type one or more search terms, preferably multiple, (the words or phrase that best describe the information you want to find) into the search box and hit the "Search" button.

The search feature is not case sensitive. All letters, regardless of how you type them in, will be understood as lower case.

A results page is produced: a list of web pages related to your search terms, with the most relevant page appearing first, then the next, and so on.
Using the plus ["+"] sign

If a specific word is necessary within the results you want, you can include it by putting a "+" sign in front of it.

Example: If you are searching for the book Cat in the Hat, and you only want the hardcover version, your search query may appear as follows: Cat in the Hat +hardcover

Using the minus ["-"] sign

If your search term has more than one meaning you can focus your search by putting a minus sign ("-") in front of words related to the meaning you want to avoid.

Example: If you are searching for the book Cat in the Hat, and you only want the hardcover version, your search query may appear as follows: Cat in the Hat - paperback
Phrase Searches

Sometimes you'll only want results that include an exact phrase. In this case, simply put quotation marks around your search terms.

Example: If you are searching for the book Cat in the Hat, your search query may appear as follows: "Cat in the Hat"
Combination

The above tips can be combined to refine a search.

Example: If you are searching for the book Cat in the Hat, and you only want the hardcover version, your search query may appear as follows: "Cat in the Hat" +hardcover -paperback
