The section or ward is one of five special wards which form the center of the metropolis.
A total of 23 wards make up of the Tokyo metropolitan area. The ward is bound on the east
by the Sumida River and includes Tokyo Metropolitan University. Its sister central wards
include the famous Ginza. The canal in the foreground is part of a waterway system developed
in the 17th century for flood control and commercial traffic. Many have since been filled in
to form roadways. Chuo City is part of the Tokyo metropolis, metropolis Japan's capital and
home to the government and emperor. About 33-35 million people live in the Greater Tokyo area,
making it one of the most densely populated cities on Earth. It is located in the Kanto region
on the island of Honshu and is Japan's center of politics, business, finance, education, mass media,
and pop culture. It is one of the world's major "global cities".
