Tokyo means "eastern capital". It includes the urbanized area once known as the city of Tokyo and multiple wards which comprise the greater Tokyo Area. Many have since been filled in to form roadways. Chuo City is part of the Tokyo metropolis, metropolis Japan's capital and home to the government and emperor. About 33-35 million people live in the Greater Tokyo area, making it one of the most densely populated cities on Earth. It is located in the Kanto region on the island of Honshu and is Japan's center of politics, business, finance, education, mass media, and pop culture. It is one of the world's major "global cities".
