Welcome to Osaka!

Osaka, with a population of about 2.7 million, is the third largest city in
Japan. It is located about 215 miles west of Tokyo and is close to Kyoto
and Nara. Historically, Osaka has been Japan's commercial capital and a
major industrial center. During World War II the city was nearly leveled by
U.S. bombing. This resulted in makeshift concrete facades that continue to
dominate Osaka's skyline. Today Osaka is home to a number of historical and
entertainment venues including Osaka Castle, Osaka Aquarium (Japan's
largest), and Universal Studios Japan.
