Edinburgh is the 2nd largest city in Scotland and its capital since 1437. It is situated on the east coast of Scotland's central lowlands. Edinburgh is known for the annual Festival, the Festival Fringe - the largest performing arts festival in the world, and for the Hogmanay street party. At the time of the art festivals the city doubles in population and is one of the world's major tourist destinations, with about 13 million visitors a year.
